On the evening of April 27, 2019, the lives of many citizens of Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac were turned upside down as a significant portion of the town was flooded following the breach of the dike.
Police, firefighters and military personnel rushed to the scene to assist families who had to be evacuated at full speed, leaving behind a part of their lives.
Multiple resources were made available to the shaken community. We witnessed with empathy all the mutual aid between neighbors that was born from this ordeal, and witnessed on a daily basis the physical and psychological reconstruction of the affected citizens.
One year later, we remember. It is in homage to the human beings who were affected by this event, residents, merchants, police officers, firefighters, ambulance attendants, municipal employees and volunteers, that one year later, the director of the Régie de police du Lac des Deux-Montagnes, Mr. Patrick Denis, and the director of the Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac Fire Department, Mr. Norbert Vendette, visited the site where it all began. Police officers and firefighters are united more than ever, in order to continue to serve and support women, men and children of our territory.
